A second Expert Meeting on Financing Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is to be held on 28-29 May 2008 at the New Yorker Hotel in New York, USA. IEA Clean Coal Centre and the IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme with sponsorship from the World Coal Institute and Chevron will be organising and holding this follow up meeting. Attendance at the meeting will be limited to approximately one hundred participants and most places have been taken.
The purpose of the meeting is to increase the awareness and involvement of US experts from the financial sector in the current status and development of CCS projects. Topically, there have been several CCS projects cancelled since the London meeting held last year including FutureGen. It is intended that the meeting will identify key financial drivers and obstacles in North America and internationally. This meeting will address the key question ‘What is needed to accelerate and encourage the deployment of CCS projects from R&D to commercial reality?’ The provisional programme will be available later in March on the event website which will be sent out to participants who wish to register. The website will have detailed information about accommodation and the venue.
The Chair of the IEA GHG R&D Programme Kelly Thambimuthu will be speaking at the meeting along with expert involved in CCS from the coal industry, financial, insurance and Government sectors. If you would like one of the remaining seats, there are limited places for IEA Clean Coal Centre members to attend and you should contact Sian Twinning at sian@ieaghg.org as soon as possible.
